On the early morning of the 12th of September, 2007, organized by Shanghai Angel Charity Foundation, medical team comprised of experts and physicians in various medical areas and members of “SACF Hand-in-Hand Program” visited more than twenty impoverished disabled persons and their families in Yang Jing Community, Pudong New Area with frequently-used medicine, daily necessities such as rice and free medical treatment. On the eve of Chinese Mid-autumn Festival, Shanghai Pudong Charity Hospital sent their sincere wishes to this special group.
    In this activity, we really felt the difficulties for disabled population and their families. Their habitation environment - the gloomy corridor, the dilapidated stair and the dirty air, made us feel their low life standard.
    The happiness is similar, while the adversity is various. Tong Yuying, a thirteen year old girl, suffered cerebral palsy (CP) due to a mistake of doctor. Her father abandoned her when she was an infant, so her mother had to support the whole family. Also, Yuying was too young to reach the level to get insurance benefits for disabled by government. When her mother was out, her grandparents took care of the little girl. Yuying's grandfather always spoke to her, and sometimes Yuying replied to him with simple sounds. Now Yuying was thirteen years old, while her grandfather was decrepit. Last year he was taken ill. After 17-day in ICU, Yuying's grandfather was saved. After being taught how to read, Yuying liked reading. Her grandparents were glad. Yuying's grandmother told us, "Yuying is very smart. It is easy for her to learn something." When seeing so many people, little Yuying was very shy. Then she gave us a big smile, the purest smile in our heart.
    In addition, Zhu Yi's family gave us a deep impression. Zhu Yi is 28 years old, but his height is similar to a ten-year-old boy. Suffered serous nephropathy, Zhu Yi lived with his father, who was also too sickly to work, after Zhu Yi's mother passed away. The monthly government subsidy for Zhu Yi's father is only RMB 430. Adding Zhu Yi's insurance benefits for disabled, it is still hard for them to afford the expense for life and treatment. Zhu Yi's father told us that Zhu Yi liked painting, especially painting tiger. With our encouragements, Zhu Yi painted us a tiger at presence. It only took him five minutes. Looking at the picture, we praised Zhu Yi for his exquisite painting.
    Each life is a miracle, though the miracle is sometimes not perfect. The disabled can not have a life like the normal people because of various reasons. To them, life is a bumpy road. When visiting the disabled and their families, we relieved our worry and pity because of the simple smile on their face. Their optimism influenced everyone around them.
    Because of love, we become stronger. The disabled have real feeling of love. The loves from family, the encouragements from society, some care words, and the hands to aid, are like the seeds which will grow as trees in their hearts. Shanghai Pudong Charity Hospital will continue to convey our love and care to more underprivileged disabled persons and their families in the future.
